1 Kings 5:1-12 “Friendship, Legacy & Wisdom”
“Now Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon, when he heard that they had anointed him king in place of his father, for Hiram had always been a friend of David.” (1) Solomon responded to Hiram with a request for a trade deal clearly rooted in the friendship David had built with him. Though David would not build the temple, he made preparations including building a relational legacy making it possible for his son to build the temple he desired to build. David exercised wisdom in making preparations, not only in materials, but in relationships creating a generational impact [legacy]! This trade deal was made benefiting both peoples. Materials Solomon lacked would be supplied by Hiram and goods Hiram lacked would be supplied by Solomon. The wisdom God gave Solomon had its beginnings in His father David. He honored the friendship his father had built enabling the amazing accomplishment of building God’s house. “The LORD gave wisdom to Solomon, just as He promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and the two of them made a covenant.” (12) Like David we can build a legacy of friendships enabling great accomplishments for generations to come!
