1 Samuel 25:36-44 ”New Influence in Great Loss”
Abagail’s wisdom not only saved her and her household, but her foolish husband Nabal too. After he recovered from being drunk the following morning, she informed him: “…and his heart died within him so that he became as a stone. About ten days later, the LORD struck Nabal and he died.” (37b-38). David saw this as a twofold blessing. God defended his cause and kept him from doing evil. David just lost the influence of the prophet Samuel, but now he gains the influence of a wise woman who keeps him on track with God’s ways. We remember “Never pay back evil for evil to anyone…” and “…for it is written, ‘VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY, says the Lord.” (Romans 12:17a & 19b). May God grant us the wisdom to keep our hearts and eyes open for new and healthy prophetic influences in our lives.
