1 Samuel 19:1-7

At this point Saul has tried to kill David with his spear, removed him from his house, and used his own family [Michal] attempting to murder him. Jonathan warns David of his father desire to kill him, but he is torn between loyalty to his father and his friend. After David hides, Jonathan reasons with his dad: “…’Do not let the king sin against his servant David, since he has not sinned against you, and since his deeds have been very beneficial to you.’” (4b, c). He reminds him of how David risked his life and delivered Israel. Saul listened to his son and vowed not to kill David: “…And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence as formerly.” (7b). In spite of Saul’s many attempts to take his life, David willingly returned to his house and continued serving Saul as the king of Israel. Love always involves risk, but it is worth the risk! We must be filled with God’s presence and focused on God’s interest.
