2 Samuel 12:24-31 “Moving On”
The first thing David does after great loss, is to comfort Bathsheba. Often when we suffer loss we lose sight of the pain others are suffering from the same loss. “…and went in to her and lay with her, and she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. And the LORD loved him…” (24b, c). David knew very well his need to serve others. Now Nathan is sent by God to David calling him Jedidiah, meaning “beloved of the Lord.” Then Joab exhorts David to get back in the fight with the Ammonites. David must remember that as king he is to fight for God’s people. This fight began prior to his sin with Bathsheba when he was not fighting for the people but in a place of comfort. God affirmed his favor on David’s life with a prophetic word regarding Solomon essentially identifying him as his successor. Comforting others in loss and fighting for the well being of God’s people, enables us to move on after great loss.
