The healing of Naaman in 2 Kings 5 provides a powerful blueprint for accessing God’s miracles and deliverance. Naaman was a respected Syrian military commander who suffered from leprosy, a humiliating disease that forced him to live completely covered despite his high social status. Through an unlikely messenger – a young Jewish servant girl who had been captured during a raid – Naaman learned about the prophet Elisha’s ability to heal.
When Naaman approached Elisha for healing, he expected a grand display of power. Instead, the prophet simply instructed him to wash seven times in the Jordan River. Naaman’s initial reaction was fury and pride – he had predetermined how God should work and was offended by the simplicity of the solution. He complained about the location and method, believing the rivers of Damascus were superior to the muddy Jordan.
The turning point came when Naaman’s servants wisely counseled him to obey the simple command.
