1 Samuel 21:10-15
“Then David arose and fled that day from Saul, and went to Achish king of Gath.” (10) David ’s fear moves him to flee to his enemies to escape Saul’s threats. Again, his fear has led him to another act of deception: “So he disguised his sanity before them, and acted insanely in their hands, and scribbled on the doors of the gate, and let his saliva run down into his beard.” (13). This act of deception got him out of trouble. In spite of David’s fear and deception, God used them to bring him into a greater revelation of Who He is and how to behave more appropriately before God and His people. This journey has many twists and turns, but God’s faithfulness is revealed to David through them. In the mean time, we can greatly benefit and learn from this biblical record of David’s struggles that God used to equip him to be a great king. As my dad use to say, “A wise man learns from his mistakes, but a wiser man learns from the mistakes of others.” We need to understand our struggles are God’s tools for our long term growth and benefit.
