2 Samuel 22:1-51 “The Fierce Love of God!”
“And David spoke the word of this song to the LORD in the day that the LORD delivered him from hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.” (1) David begins his song by using a number of terms to describe who the Lord is to him personally: my fortress, my deliverer, my God, my rock, my shield, my stronghold, my refuge, my savior and other terms. The reason why David experienced such extraordinary interventions in his life is because of who he saw God to be to him. Though the term father is not used here you can see His nature woven through this song. In verses 4-23 we see God intervening in David’s life like a passionate loving father. In a sense you can almost hear God saying, “You touch my son and I will destroy you!” We also see David living in the knowledge of God’s word and efforts to fully follow His word at all costs (24-32). David makes no boasts of his warring abilities but attributes all his success to the help of God. Every victory and extraordinary effort of David he attributes to God who has equipped him. God stands with his children in fierce love!
