Resisting the devil is not simply telling him to stop. It is an active declaration of your citizenship in the kingdom of heaven. Just as a conquered soldier in ancient Rome had to renounce his former allegiance to join a new kingdom, believers are called to boldly renounce any connection to the enemy’s kingdom. The enemy’s greatest weapon is deception, convincing you that God does not love you or that old bondages still have power over you. Political labels, denominations, and national identities cannot define you before God. Only your identity as a child of God carries true spiritual authority. When you combine genuine repentance with a bold renouncing of the enemy, you remove his legal right to harass you. You have been transferred into the kingdom of God’s dear Son, and that transfer changes everything.
