1 Kings 10:1-13 “Wisdom, Wealth & Witness”
The wisdom God gave Solomon resulted in attracting leaders all around him. “Now when the queen of Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the LORD, she came to test him with difficult questions.” (1) When she asked Solomon hard questions, nothing was was hidden from him and he explained it all beyond her expectations. Though she had been skeptical of his reported wisdom, she responded by saying: “…’And behold, the half was not told me. You exceed in wisdom and prosperity the report which I heard. How blessed are your men,…’”. (7b-8a). She spoke of how God delighted in him to make him king, “…’to do justice and righteousness.’” (9d). This wisdom was seen to be from God for the benefit of those he served. Consequently, the queen of Sheba blessed God as the source of wisdom and saw Israel as its beneficiaries. Others saw this and brought of their wealth strengthening Israel’s position. We must realize that the wealth is secondary and the wisdom we have from God is to serve others and strengthen our witness for God’s honor.
