Luke 1:39-56
After Mary conceived God’s Son by the Spirit, she visited her relative Elizabeth. “When Elizabeth heard Mary’s
greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled the the Holy Spirit.” (41) What some saw as a
moral tragedy, being Mary was married, Elizabeth saw as a high honor and God’s favor. We also know that John,
in the womb, was filled with joy and the Holy Spirit. Today many do not even regard those in the womb as a
person, and others might encourage an abortion due to Elizabeth’s age. However, both this “advanced in age”
woman and her soon to be born son, were filled with the Holy Spirit, joy, and prophetic praise. Full of the Holy
Spirit, both Elizabeth and her son, saw beyond the natural realm. Mary burst out glorifying God for Who He is, His
works and His word. The perceptions of those filled with the Spirit are not only distinct, but they are accurate and
full of joy. May God fill us with His Spirit so we see beyond the natural realm and its obstacles, into the realm of
God’s nature, work and promises.
