Luke 22:31-34
Jesus knew Satan would attack His disciples, but especially Peter. So He said, “But I have prayed for
you that your FAITH may not fail. And you, when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” (32).
Like Peter, we are often unaware of our weakness and/or the enemy’s attacks on our souls (33-34).
Jesus, however, knows both our vulnerability and how we can overcome it by standing in the gap
[praying] for us so our “faith” does not fail (Heb. 7:25). We all fail, but our Lord intercedes for us so our
faith is not flooded by our failure. When we turn back, we are then exhorted to “…strengthen your
brothers.” (32c). We need to see our restoration is not simply for our benefit, but intended by God to
benefit others. Only when we are in a healthy place can we help others into a healthy place.
