Luke 14:1-6
“It happened that when He went into the house of one of the leaders of the Pharisees on the Sabbath to
eat bread, they were watching Him closely.” (1) These leaders were not with Jesus to learn, but to find
reason to reject and accuse Him. When He asked if was lawful to heal on the Sabbath, they kept quiet.
Jesus knew they opposed this, but healed the man anyway. He exposed their hypocrisy in that they
were more concerned about their animals than with the needs of God’s people. At times, religious
traditions evolve into rules we can keep to make us feel better about ourselves while masking our
unwillingness or inability to meet people’s real needs with God's grace and power. May God’s expose
all such hypocrisy so we can declare His kingdom in power and love.
