Luke 3:15-38
“…, Jesus was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit
descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, ‘You are My beloved
Son, in You I am well-pleased.’” (21b-22) Jesus’ identity as God’s Son is validated in the context of His
submission to baptism. Heaven was opened, the Holy Spirit visibly came on Him, and a heavenly voice
affirmed His identity as God’s Son. Yet, after all this, a careful biblical record traces Jesus line all the
way to Adam, “…the son of God.” (38b). Like Jesus, when we know who we are as God’s children both
by spiritual experience and biblical record, we then have a healthy foundation for effectively serving
God’s people.
