Luke 11:29-36
Jesus accused His generation of being wicked always seeking a sign. In contrast to the Queen of the
South who traveled a great distance to hear Solomon’s wisdom, they did not see the even greater value
of Jesus. Unlike those in Nineveh who repented at Jonah’s preaching, they did not repent at Jesus’
preaching. The illustration of the lamp shows us the purpose of God’s word in Jesus is to illuminate our
inner man. “The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear, your whole body also is full of
light; but when it is bad, your body also is full of darkness.” (34) Is our eye clear being focused on God’s
Word? Like this Queen and the city of Nineveh, we must realize the value of God’s word, pursue His
light, and treasure it until we are wholly illuminated by it!
