Value of God’s Word

2 Chronicles 12:1-4
“When the kingdom of Rehoboam was established and strong, he and all Israel with him abandoned the Law of the LORD.” (1) Often in times of peace and strength we fail to see our need for God and His Word. Because of this unfaithfulness to God’s Word, they became vulnerable to the king of Egypt and his innumerable military force. “And he captured the fortified cities of Judah and came as far as Jerusalem.” (4) All their efforts to fortify were useless in protecting them from Egypt because they abandoned God’s Word. When we do the same, there are no books, philosophies, political leaders, or strategies able to make up for the loss of God’s Word. We are at a critical point in our culture, but too many are looking to political leaders and worldly strategies rather than turning to God with all of our heart, mind, soul, and strength. We must restore to the church an understanding of the critical value of God’s Word in overcoming our vulnerability to this world and its system.
