2 Chronicles 5:1-10 “Valuing the Past & People”
After construction of God’s house was completed, Solomon did things worth noting. First, “…And Solomon brought the things that his father David had dedicated, the silver, the gold, and all the utensils, and he put them in the treasuries of the house of God.” (1b) Do we value the treasures our fathers labored for to bring them into our present work? Or have we taken them for granted, forgotten, or even lost due to neglect. Solomon valued what his father accumulated and they were the first things into the new house of God. “Then Solomon ASSEMBLED [Capitols for emphasis] at Jerusalem the elders of Israel, all the heads of the tribes, and the leaders of the fathers’ households of the sons of Israel, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD up from the city of David, which is Zion,” (2) This was not an event where a few leaders participated, but an event requiring all spiritual leadership and all the men of Israel (vs. 3-10) participating in the process. This was done with reverence according to God’s directives found in God’s word. While the budded rod of Aaron and elements of manna are now God, there remained the ten commandments in the ark. We must not be so caught up in the present move of God that we forget to value of what our fathers received from God in the past or the value of all God’s people!
