2 Chronicles 1:1-17
“Now Solomon the son of David established himself securely over his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him and exalted him greatly,” (1) Solomon’s early success is seen in God’s presence and God’s promotion. His response was to go to Gibeon where Moses set up the tabernacle and worshiped God with 1000 burnt offerings. “In that night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, ‘Ask what I shall give you.’” (7) Solomon was aware his place as king over this numerous people came from God. Yet, his awareness of another factor was very important shaping his petition. “Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people, for who can rule this great people of Yours?” (10) Not only did he see himself as inadequate, but no one would be able to do this except God grant him this ability. God was so pleased with his confession of inadequacy, He not only granted him wisdom, He granted him wealth and protection. From the place of worship and confession of inadequacy, God granted Solomon the wisdom, wealth, and protection essential to his success.
